Somalia’s economy had recovered considerably, thanks to a sharp drop in unemployment last year. This led to a surge in the purchasing power of its population. The country had a significant number of middle-income, middle- and upper-earning individuals and families with incomes over US$50,000-US$200,000 per year. This added up to over 20.000 million people in 2014 – up to over 40% growth of the national average in the period. The growth was quite significant – it was the largest growth of any country on earth (except Japan), and over one billion people were expected to be working in 2014.
The country has seen a sharp drop in its housing policy and an increase in government taxation and the development of higher-skilled, more urban estates. This is the major reason why the government has been less strict about controlling the amount of foreign investment in its assets.
The rise in wealth and real estate in Africa has been so rapid that several years before, economic growth in the region was so slow that it barely even seemed that way.
